Figure skating is a fascinating sport that combines elegance, precision, and passion. However, when it comes to choosing the right skates, skimping is often the wrong thing to do. Cheap figure skates from suppliers such as Ochsner Sport , Decathlon , SportXX and other sports supermarkets seem attractive at first glance – but the supposed savings quickly turn out to be an expensive mistake. Why? Here are the key points that demonstrate why buying from a specialist retailer, the MVP HOCKEY SHOP, is the better choice in the long run. 1. Poor quality of the cut The right sharpening is essential for ice skating. Cheap skates from sports stores are often only roughly sharpened or not sharpened at all due to a lack of the right sharpening machine or the lack of expertise, leading to instability and poor control on the ice. In a specialist shop, however, the sharpening is done by professionals and individually tailored to the customer's needs – and all at no extra cost (a CHF 15 value). Sharpening is one of our passions, and we're experts in it! 2. Lack of adjustment of the fit Another major disadvantage is that sports supermarkets don't offer professional skate fitting. The perfect fit is crucial to avoid pressure points and ensure a comfortable ride. The MVP HOCKEY SHOP offers unbeatable advantages here: Heating in a special oven: The skates are individually adjusted to the shape of your foot. This service (value CHF 25) is included in the purchase price. Pressing out pressure points: If there is still pressure somewhere, the problem areas are pressed out with special pliers These measures not only provide more comfort, but also reduce the risk of injury and allow for longer evenings on the ice. 3. No professional advice In a specialty store, the foot is measured using a foot scanner before purchase to help determine the perfect shoe. This service is free and essential to ensure the optimal fit. Sports supermarkets generally don't offer such advice (a scanner costs CHF 5,000, which is too expensive for multinationals...), which often leads customers to choose skates that don't fit their foot profile (the trick of sports supermarkets: selling them a size larger doesn't necessarily mean they fit properly, and nothing pinches anymore, great, right?!). 4. Low savings potential At first glance, inexpensive skates under CHF 100 seem attractive. But when you consider the additional costs associated with a lack of comfort and necessary repairs, this advantage quickly becomes less attractive. With tight skates, a visit to the ice rink often becomes torture – and reaching for mulled wine to forget the pain becomes a costly alternative. :-) 5. Longevity and joy Another important consideration is durability. Skates from a specialist shop offer a significantly longer service life thanks to high-quality materials and professional fitting. Buying cheap often means buying twice – this is especially true for figure skates. Great leather is easy to care for, so the skates will stay beautiful for 20 years and can even be passed down to children. Conclusion: Save time and money in the specialty store - with us at MVP HOCKEY SHOP Buying from a specialist shop is not only an investment in quality and comfort, but also in the joy of ice skating. With free services like: Free foot scan Free adjustment to the foot shape (CHF 35.-) Free professional polishing (CHF 25.-) ...the purchase price in a specialist shop is significantly fairer and ensures a completely successful experience on the ice. Save yourself the disappointment and opt for quality right away – for more fun and safety on the ice! Your MVP team - there for you with passion for ice sports!
